dr hab. Carl Humphries

  • studied philosophy at Cambridge, and classical piano in London,
  • after a career as a professional musician he completed a PhD in philosophy at Southampton University (2006), while also writing three handbooks exploring creative approaches to learning to play the piano. Apart from numerous articles, he is the author of two books in philosophy, Musical Expression and Performance: A Philosophical Study (2016) and Radical Historicality: Perspectives from the Later Wittgenstein (2020). On the basis of the latter work, he received the qualification of habilitated doctor from Wroclaw University (in 2021),
  • his research focuses on three areas and the interconnections between them: the later Wittgenstein, temporality and temporal perspective, and the nature of value (i.e. temporal axiology – especially as it relates to human society and cultures).
